The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

I found this poem and am thinking I'll memorize it.  Isn't it beautiful!

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

  1. Are you for REAL memorizing this poem?!! I like this post because it points to what ALL OF US can feel, looking around. After having chosen the thing we've chosen early on, good-bad-or-indifferent; you're right on. We DO keep going down the well worn and well known road, and finding any other way seems too hard or takes too much time or requires something of us we don't know how to give yet. You're insightful. I liked what you said about how uncomfortable that well worn road might come to feel though, and sure enough what's left is to keep on keeping on or try to take the, hm, what, higher road? Other road? (Where IS the road!!!) Less traveled by? Love your thoughts - we'll talk! :)
